Road Blocks and Frustrations

Hey all. Have you ever had that moment where you get so frustrated with something because it was going the way you want and then in an instant it just goes down the drain? Yes? Okay cool because this happened to me this weekend while I was working on the crazy rope arm pieces on my Antaam Saar cosplay. One cut and the rope decided to unravel and fray completely. Welp, that was a bust. It made me get so frustrated that I had to step away and do something else until I cooled down.

And this is what I wanted to talk about today. How to get past road blocks and frustrations while working on your cosplay. Just know that at some point this is going to happen and you either have to go on and just role with it or you have to take it apart and redo that section or the whole thing. Neither of those are fun to do, but they happen and are the ways to get past it.

Usually what I do is step away and go on to another part of the cosplay if I can, which is why I went on to trying to figure out a quick and easy way to get Vallaslin on my face. After my brain has cooled down I will go back to the flubbed up piece of the cosplay and figure out if it was something that I did or if it was that material that failed. If it is the material I would just go back to the craft or fabric store and try to find something similar that could work with the cosplay. If it was my error, then I would try to find another way to do it and see if it works better than before.

So yesterday I decided to run to the fabric and craft store after my dentist appointment because it was close by. This was a different branch of the store so I hoped that they would have slightly different stock. I looked around and actually found material that matched the top portion of the Antaam Saar AND it was a brand new spool with 18 yards of trim. I snatched that sucker up so fast that if someone saw me they would have seen this dramatic flare of my arms and just kept walking pretending not to notice me. I went home and tried out the material and IT WORKED! I was so happy that I finished the top portion of the arm rope. It stunk that I had to spend more money on the cosplay, but it was worth it since it worked perfectly.

As you can see just keeping calm and coming back to the cosplay helps tremendously. Also going to different stores helps out too. You never know what you will find.

Well, that is all I have to talk about today. Let me know how your cosplays are going and make sure to follow me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter!

Till next time,

Emzer (RezCosplay)
